How Pixeled Eggs Built The Earthshot Prize Website
The Earthshot Prize needed a website to carry its campaign through every phase of the award, and to stay fast through the traffic spikes of a BBC documentary series and a televised ceremony.

The Earthshot Prize is designed to incentivise change and help repair the planet over ten years. Each year The Royal Foundation awards it to five winners, who each receive a £1 million grant to continue their work.
The Challenge
The website had to bring the campaign to life, explain each phase of the award process and appeal to a broad audience, showing how human ingenuity could create change and inspire action. In the weeks before the awards, a six-part BBC documentary narrated by Prince William and Sir David Attenborough would run, so the site had to cope with sudden, large rises in traffic, with the biggest expected during the televised ceremony.
The Approach
Pixeled Eggs started with research and discovery into the campaign's goals and the needs of each audience, including the internal digital team. Working with the branding agency, the team turned the brand guidelines into an interactive experience, on a flexible, secure platform that handles every phase from nominations to the awards.
The hosting, powered by 100% renewable energy, was built to absorb sudden spikes and load quickly at the busiest moments. Bandwidth could be scaled up for key moments such as the award ceremony on BBC One.
The Outcome
The Earthshot Prize has a scalable, modular website that it could reuse and develop as its needs change.
