The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) is a professional body whose website serves members and learners as well as employers, trustees and the wider pensions industry. The site held a wide range of valuable content, but users often had to work too hard to find it.
The Challenge
The site needed upgrading from Umbraco 8 to a more secure, scalable platform. Important content on qualifications, membership, events and resources was hard to find, and some journeys offered too many choices, unclear calls to action or disconnected content. Navigation, search, membership journeys and support content all needed work, and PMI needed a more flexible CMS with clearer content management.
The Approach
Discovery. Moriyama combined stakeholder engagement, personas, an analytics review, Microsoft Clarity heatmaps, user survey findings and competitor analysis. The picture was a busy, content-rich site with heavy use of qualifications, membership, events, sign-in and search, where navigation, search and content structure caused friction on the journeys that mattered most.
Design. The team refreshed the interface while keeping PMI's brand recognition and depth of content, with clearer page layouts, a stronger content hierarchy and more consistent components. Accessibility and mobile usability were priorities. The new structure gives clearer routes into membership, qualifications, training, events and resources.
Platform. Moriyama built the new site on Umbraco 13 with reusable modules, stronger CMS management, improved SEO controls and better forms. It works with PMI's third-party systems for events, membership and user accounts, so content, journeys and integrations work together.
The Outcome
PMI has a modern Umbraco 13 website with a refreshed interface, a clearer content structure, simpler journeys, easier navigation and improved search. Its team has more control over content, landing pages and future updates, on a more flexible foundation for growth.
