How HeadChannel Built the Thrive & Grow Index for Compassionate Cultures
Compassionate Cultures' method for assessing organisational culture ran on manual surveys, spreadsheets and hand-made reports. In about four months, HeadChannel turned it into the Thrive & Grow Index, a SaaS platform built to scale.

Compassionate Cultures had built a respected, evidence-based method for assessing organisational culture. It worked well in workshops and consulting engagements, but it was getting harder to scale.
The Challenge
Delivery relied on manually administered surveys, spreadsheets with custom scoring, manual interpretation and commentary, PDF reports made by hand, accreditation checks carried out by coaches, and repetitive admin across every client and cohort.
The company needed a platform that codified the method without losing its rigour. It had to support admins, coaches and participants; produce scores, heatmaps, benchmarks and recommendations automatically; enforce accreditation, renewal rules and credit use; export consistent PDF reports on demand; and take payment through Stripe. It also needed a public website to explain the method and win customers.
The Approach
Discovery and design. Designers, engineers and the client's experts mapped the whole life of an assessment together: survey flow and branching logic, scoring rules, heatmaps and dashboards, accreditation, credits, coach and admin workflows, and the structure of the PDF report. They co-designed wireframes, mock-ups and user journeys from those sessions.
A modular platform. The back end handles multiple organisations, coaches and cohorts; flexible surveys with branching; a scoring engine for heatmaps, indexes and benchmarking; a rules engine for accreditation, credits and renewals; branded PDF generation; Stripe credit bundles for self-service purchase; and admin dashboards. Compassionate Cultures could evolve the method without rebuilding the platform.
An interface for each user. Participants get a guided, mobile-friendly survey with clear progress indicators. Coaches get cohort dashboards, comparisons, trends, accreditation tools and reports on demand. Organisation admins schedule surveys and monitor usage and credits, and Compassionate Cultures oversees the whole system.
Testing and launch. HeadChannel tested across devices, ran acceptance sessions with the client's consultants, staged a live beta with selected client cohorts, refined the reporting flows and trained the team. It also built the public marketing website, which links to the live platform.
The platform is built in React on Supabase, with Stripe, Brevo for email and a custom PDF engine, using lovable.dev and GitHub Copilot.
The Outcome
Compassionate Cultures has moved from a labour-intensive consulting model to a SaaS business. Survey delivery, scoring, interpretation and reporting take far less time, and the platform supports more clients and coaches without a matching rise in staff. Clients buy credits and scale on their own. Early feedback says the insights are clearer, more actionable and more consistent than the old manual reports.
