Uralensis Innov8 helps pathologists, hospitals and labs distribute and analyse pathology cases. Its PathHub platform connects them with patient records and handles case distribution, analysis monitoring, documents and invoicing. Its CEO is a pathologist. The company works mainly in the UK and is exploring North America.
The Challenge
Collaboration between hospitals and pathologists runs for months or years, across many institutions. The data is sensitive, so the platform needed full auditability and version control, and it had to scale with everything that builds up over that time while staying simple for a varied set of users.
Physical packages of pathology tests travel between hospitals and pathologists, and each one needed tracking. With several organisations involved, access needed a careful permission framework that still allowed data to be shared.
The Approach
Uralensis Innov8 brought HeadChannel in during 2023 to redesign and build its base SaaS product as the foundation for both multi-tenant and single-tenant versions. HeadChannel assessed the legacy system's problems with the client, then ran a short series of intensive workshops to settle the technical and business requirements. These produced documentation for the architecture and the business functions, and a defined MVP.
The team built a multi-tenant cloud platform in C# on the ABP framework, with MS SQL, hosted in Azure, working in Scrum. It includes:
- Tracking for every package across its whole journey
- Data integrity, version control and audit trails
- Permission-based access across organisations
- A modern interface for users of every level of technical skill
Richard and his team have played a pivotal role in creating a Pathology LIMS, as a baseline product, perfect for public / private cloud hosting that Uralensis Innov8 can take to multiple clients and really enhance its SaaS offering. It has shifted the product into the enterprise arena which makes it scalable using the latest web technologies (React front end, C Sharp backend).
The Outcome
PathHub is now a scalable baseline product that Uralensis Innov8 could host on a public or private cloud and offer to multiple clients.
